This year it will take place for the fourth time — on Riga’s 817th birthday on August 19th at 11. novembra krastmala — visitors from Latvia and abroad will gather together. The special guests of the event will be professional percussionists from USA, Hungary and Poland.

Everyone who plays drums is invited to the Summit, regardless of their age or mastery level. The event will begin on August 19th at 12:00 and all day long there will be drummers’ workshops, performances by the best percussionists in Latvia and activities for the youngest drummers; there will also be drum rings at the event, in which children, young people and adults will compete.

The culmination of the Summit will be the Great Evening Concert, which will start at 20:00. There all the drummers will perform different rhythms and play along popular songs. The special guests at the concert will be Mike Terrana from USA and Gergo Borlai from Hungary. He has lived in Europe for 20 years and is currently playing with an Italian metal band “Vision Divine”, as well as with Spanish metal players “Avalanch” and a Czech band “Kreyson”. He also has his own hard rock band “Terrana” and a live music project that combines classical and rock music.

Gergo Borlai, on the other hand, is one of the most renowned Hungarian jazz drummers in the world, who at the age of 40 has already participated in recording more than a 100 albums and has received various prestigious awards, including two for lifetime contribution in the development of Hungarian music. He is known as a particularly masterful drum soloist, many people have enjoyed watching his solo performances on YouTube. “The Baltic Drum Summit in a few short years has grown from a small, seemingly utopian idea into the loudest event in the history of drumming in the Baltic States,” proudly states the main organizer of the event — drummer Andžejs Grauds. “I am overjoyed that, despite some difficulties that we encountered in the beginning, we have prevailed and we do not have to prove anything to anyone anymore. Every year we just want to raise the bar higher regarding the quality of this event.”

Some of the other guests to the event include the street theatre “V.O.S.A. Theatre” from the Czech Republic, marching drummers “Drumline Latvia”, drumming group “Tako” from Korea Republic, Nils Īle’s new group “Kanisaifa” and DJ Vento. On the Summit’s small stage will perform drumming group “The Clicks JR”, drummer Igor Falecki from Poland, children’s groups from Andžejs Grauds’ Drum School and local drumming professionals.

All day long there will be special stands, where visitors will be able to learn the basics of playing drums and percussion, explore and try out new things in the drum industry and participate in other activities. There will also be a craftsmen market at the event.
