On the third day of Riga City Festival, on August 19th, visitors will be able to observe performances by the participants of the 4th Baltic Drum Summit, spend time at Piens Festival, listen to several concert programmes, participate in sports activities and dance in an open-air ball, as well as watch street circus, participate in plain-air painting and shop at fairs.
This year the most impressive events of the Riga City Festival will take place at 11. novembra krastmala. On Sunday more than 300 drummers participating in the 4th Baltic Drum Summit will play music together. Festival visitors will also have the opportunity to see a performance by the street theatre “V.O.S.A. Theatre” from Prague and, afterwards, a show by the marching drummers “Drumline Latvia”. A magnificent but unusual performance will be given by drumming group “Tago” from Korea Republic, there will also be a performance by drumming group “The Clicks JR”, as well as drumming competitions in the Drumming Ring. Drummer Igor Falecki from Poland and group “Kanisaifa” consisting of professional percussionist Nils Īle and like-minded individuals will delight the audience with their playing. There will also be performances by the children’s groups from Andžejs Grauds’ Drum School and percussion activities for audience members. The day will conclude with “The Great Drumming Show” in which master percussionists will actively, passionately and loudly play together under the guidance of popular musicians.
The event “Dream Garden. Riga Latvian Society — 150th Anniversary” will continue in Vērmanes Garden Park with several concerts, creative activities and the opportunity to meet historical figures, dancing and a fashion show, as well as many educationally entertaining activities.
On Sunday Riga’s inhabitants and city guests are invited to Piens Festival, where the event programme will be made up of four types of activities: music, theatre performances for children and adults, contemporary circus performances and a design fair with workshops.
On this day visitors will be able to enjoy musical performances at several concerts. During the concert cycle “Song Bridges” on Origo Summer Stage visitors will have the opportunity to see performances by Latvian musicians, folk group “Montemar” from Chile and a number of popular Estonian bands. Meanwhile at the concert cycle “Musical scenes from Old Riga” everyone interested is welcome to go on a musical journey to 17th and 18th century Riga. In cinema “K. Suns” after the international short film programme for children and youth visitors will be able to hear electronic music cinema concerts by Andris Indāns with specially selected newsreels from the independent Latvia and Soviet Latvia that will show the image of Riga and Latvia in an unprecedented and experimentally futuristic light.
Visitors will also be able to feel the spirit of the festival at Dzegužkalns, where there will be a new production of a Latvian theatre classic with popular actors and the atmosphere of an open-air ball in the diverse concert programme.
Festival’s guests are welcome at Tallinn’s Market in Reformācijas Square, at the Film Museum of the Latvian Academy of Culture, where atmosphere of the cinema of that time will be created and screenings of newsreels, documentaries, staged films will be held, visitors are also welcome at several exhibitions and mobile culture spaces “Strops” in Ķengarags and Ziepniekkalns where visitors will be able to participate in plain-air painting.
The third day of Riga City Festival also promises to be athletic inviting everyone to become participants or supporters of a number of competitions. Many sports events will take place on this day: International Floorball Tournament “Unihoc Riga Cup 2018”, Lucavsala Beach Volleyball Cup, 24-Hour Basketball Tournament “IX Battle of the Riverbanks”, Kinder Volley Fest 2018, Rowing Festival “Come and Row!” and European Volleyball Championship qualification “Battle of the century — Latvia:Estonia”
As every year during the Riga City Festival, there will be the Port Festival with events taking place in Kronvalda Park on the shore of the City Canal and next to the Freeport of Riga Authority building; on Sunday guests will have the opportunity to visit the educational and entertaining interactive installation “Aquatorium”.
