Marking the centenary of the Baltic States, the orchestras of their capitals — Riga, Tallinn and Vilnius have united in a concert programme "The Sounds of Centenary".
The programme will be performed on August 25th in the Freedom Square in Tallinn, on September 2nd in the Cathedral Square in Vilnius, but as part of the Riga City Festival it will be played on August 18th at 17.00 in the VEF Culture Palace. The concert will include compositions by A. Maskats, R. Pauls, J. Rääts, E. Tamberg, T. Leiburas. In the first part of the concert Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Vilnius City St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra and Orchestra "Rīga" will perform with separate programs. In the second part of the concert, all three orchestras will unite symbolically forming associations with the unity of the Baltic States and they will play pieces by composers from the Baltic States, as well as a suite by Duke Ellington for jazz band and orchestra called “Night Creature”.
There will be performances by soloists Raivo Tafenau (saxophone), Tiit Kikas (violin), Veronika Povilioniene (vocal), Petras Vyšniauskas (saxophone), Daumants Kalniņš (vocal), Artūrs Noviks (accordion). Conductors — Valdis Butāns (Latvia) and Modestas Barkauskas (Lithuania).
Entrance to the concert is with free invitations that will be available at the box offices of VEF Culture Palace from Tuesday, August 14th.
